For the Record,.

(& on the quick-nothing in-depth, Time & such, Etc.)Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds was & is an "Incredulous" (incredible + glorious = incredulous) film & absolutely deserves all the praise that I assume it's getting in your area. I assume you know the plot & what's essentially going on in the film, so I won't review, just comment. Ways the film succeeds:

writing/screenplay - Basterds is the most Tarantino-esq film since Pulp Fiction, where the brilliant dialogue leads to "edge of your seat conversation" (if that even is a thing, well, it is now)-Tarantino is a master of building tension, words soak into you deeper with this film than any other this year. Who would have thought 2 men sitting at an old table drinking milk & smoking pipes could be the meat of one of the greatest opening scenes in recent memory?

acting - Brad Pitt leads the way with Christoph Waltz more than stealing the show as officers on opposite sides of the lines. The unbelievable Waltz conquers languages like I down cups of coffee & Pitt is at his funniest spewing lines in a thick Tennessee accent. Also turning in strong performances: Melanie Laurent, Diane Kruger, Eli Roth & Til Schweiger as Cpl. Hugo Stiglitz - All said, Basterds is yet another great shout to the Academy to give out one of those little gold statues to an ensemble cast. At minimum, if Waltz isn't nominated, an injustice will be done.

pacing/parallel story lines - the film itself comes in just under 3 hrs, but never feels long. without giving away too much in case you haven't seen it yet, 2 different story lines run next to each other throughout the film & "kind of" meet up together in the end. Tarantino again proves he's a master of his craft by balancing the 2 without tripping over his own feet.

loads & loads more make this movie easily the best of 2009 thus far, but go see it soon & find out for yourself or head over to "ROBTRAIN" on the right of the page. I'm assuming he'll go more in-depth than me. As always, enjoy or I'll fight you.
