dear readers,
so I sat outside in the sticky middle
of the sticky day drinking coffee,
which only made me hot & full. (forehead sweat)
the humidity quickly stated it's intentions:
suck the energy outta you,
ready for a nap,
squinting without sunglasses,
dulls your mind.
so I sat & tried to think,
I watched the cars slip around
the drive thru across the St., (Irish lunch)
I imagined them from above
like one, big, metal snake,
gorging itself endlessly,
in it's pursuit for self-gratification.
at the time, I had on a pair of 32/34
dark charcoal dress pants.
as I glanced downward to
wipe sweat from my brow,
I noticed the pants looked as if they had been
washed & worn one too many times,
possibly looking stretched
or tattered near the bottom.
this bothered me.
as seconds turned to minutes,
I noticed the coffee was having
an adverse effect on me.
two airline pilots walked into
a Japanese restaurant for lunch
as my eyes got a little
heavier with each sip.
Oh how I just wanted
to close my eyes & bury
it all anyway.
but I couldn't, I was getting
uncomfortably hot, right
around the collar.
& besides, a man with bad pants on
sleeping outside in public in
the middle of the day, could raise
a few sweaty eyebrows.
(let them raise)
well,...until a better opportunity
presented itself, I sat & watched
the cars go by some more.
how I hated all those cars
at that very moment. Unsure
why, they just annoyed me.
ya, know?, there'll always be
one more car. UUhh, I've wanted
to say that for so long now, WWhheeww!
Maybe it was the traffic, the
noise, the heat, my tattered pants.
unsure.
to get even with the cars,
I imagined each one of them
as a single, wasted day in my life.
a day that I've only caught a glimpse of
before it's passed on, fleeting & brief
with it's final destination the one,
true purpose.
(selfish)
you do see how days &
cars resemble each other, don't you?
think it through,..
but work!
I must be working on this.
broken blues (wink) don't
fix themselves.
(burp, wipe sweat)
soon after, I decided to pack
it in. but before I left,
I quickly refreshed my senses,
& noticed the heat wasn't
tapping my shoulder like it had earlier,
that made me think.
