I just don't get it.

O.K., I'll keep this short. I'm not one to dishearten the pursuit of someone else's happiness, i.e. hobbies, interests, things to do on a random Saturday, but, and that's a big but:

I don't understand horse racing.

I just don't get it.

In my opinion, there are 3 factors to consider when pursuing an interest.
This applies to all forms of art, music, film, sport, or whatever else we can devout our time to. (trust me, this will be so simple)

1. Do you like it?
Does this new light in your life give you some pleasure? It's quite possible that it will improve your quality of life. That's O.K., embrace it.

2. Do you dislike it?
Does that sound make you cringe? Can you absolutely not sit through subtitles? Is that sport too slow for you to watch? (as the Wal-Mart associate so adamantly told me this morning concerning Soccer.)

Now here's the kicker:
3. Do you get it?
How many times have I said this to myslef? This is what happens when you think you kind of dislike something. No,...It's just that you don't get it. It's not possible to dislike something that you don't understand. I'm not saying that it has to be clear and concise, but you at least have to understand what the artist is trying to do or say, or at least, what the point is to be able to enjoy it.

I hope this helps everyone. Maybe sometime someone can explain the point of horse racing to me. I'm sure though when the time comes for me to understand it, I'll probably dislike it.
